Practice Behaviors Addressed:
4a.recognize and articulate the ways in which social and cultural structures—including history, institutions, and values—oppress some identity groups while enhancing the privilege and power of dominant groups
4b. develop and demonstrate sufficient critical self-awareness to understand the influence of personal biases and values in working with diverse groups
4c.recognize and dialogue with others about the role of difference and the multiple intersections of oppression and privilege in shaping a person's identity and life experiences
4d. engage the knowledge, strengths, skills, and experience of clients/constituents in social work practice
Artifact Description:
My artifacts are pictures of our class junior year when we went to the Wing Luke Museum for an Intergroup Dialogue session. The second picture is my cabin group from the retreat we went to as seniors facilitating IGD.
Artifact Relevance:
The artifacts from each school year represent my continuous journey in intergroup dialogue as a participant and a facilitator. Through IGD, we have had the space as a cohort to dialogue with others how our identities have shaped our experiences. Through sharing our truths we have been able to look at social and cultural structures considering the individual role we play. The self-awareness I have gained has been life changing and has allowed me to find ways to bring dialogue to my practicum and other communities.
