Artifact Description:
My artifact is a picture from when I participated in the College Bound Scholarship and State Need Grant Advocacy Day in February 2015. I represented College Access Now along with two other members. We advocated for state support in student financial aid, specifically students who come from low-income backgrounds.
Artifact Relevance:
My responsibilities for representing College Access Now at the CBS and SNS Lobby Day, included being a part of the Planning Steering Committee of the event to provide feedback, to provide information and outreach to College Access Now team members to participate in the event and being a group lead the day of the event to navigate our schedule meeting with politicians. Through my critical understanding of the Washington State's current funding policies and of the social services available to support low-income students in higher education, I was able to apply this knowledge when participating in the Lobby Day. As well, this responsibility included collaborating with other College Bound organizations on the Steering Committee to work together to help the Lobby Day happen in hopes of advocating for economic justice to affect policy change and support more students to complete higher education with state financial support.
