Reflection Statement:
After seven quarters of long and hectic schedules with multiple obligations and full class loads, I finally took a stance and decided to register for only 13 credits. With this freedom in time, I decided to start "Nesley Time" once every other week. A little background on myself- before making this decision I had always been surrounded by others, whether it be my sisters, partner or friends and I never traveled on my own due to my lack in sense of direction.I also sadly, but religiously lived by my Google calendar. So with "Nesley Time" I decided to make time for myself with the goals of 1) exploring the city that I have lived in for the last year and a half, 2) spending time with myself and learning to be alone, 3) experience "firsts" and take the time to accomplish goals I set for myself that didn't involve academia.
"Nesley Time" brought on many firsts- riding the bus alone to a new place, eating alone in a restaurant, interacting with people who are homeless and sitting without an agenda. The freedom and independence I felt has sparked a conquest for more opportunities of personal growth, such as living alone for the first time. During "Nesley Time" I have felt moments of serenity, growth, independence and self-love that in my 21 years of life had not felt beforehand. It is still a struggle to make time for myself, but "Nesley Time" has taught me the value of practicing mindfulness and prioritizing myself.
- Personal Behavior: Functioning Independently
- Self-awareness and Development: Self- development

This day I explored Capital Hill and ended up at a coffee shop. From there I bought extra food and walked around until I met a homeless woman, gave her the food and talked to her about her life- this was my first step in breaking my own stigmas about people who are homeless. That night I attended my first BSU meeting in pursuit of learning about other cultures.
