"When asked about my ethnicity I have answered Filipino. I never realized the distinction and what it meant to call others 'American' and not myself". Through this course I was able to explore my Filipina identity for the first time at a deeper level. My artifact represents my learning in the course as I summarized my reflections in the final paper. This exploration has included realizations regarding my experience as a second generation Filipino born and raised in the United States, and my parents' experience as immigrants in relation to other Filipinos. This course has changed my perspective of my Filipina identity, my parents and the immigrant identity. As a result, I have more respect for the immigrant experience. I also realized that my experience as the daughter of Filipino immigrants is more universal than I thought from reading articles on Filipino women. | |
